Open Letter from Florida Lawyers in Defense of Judicial Independence

The Cuban American Bar Association is proud to have led the effort to unite Florida’s legal community in defense of one of our democracy’s most fundamental principles: judicial independence.

For decades, CABA has championed the rule of law and an independent judiciary—not only in Cuba, but wherever those principles are threatened. An impartial judiciary, free from political pressure, intimidation, or retaliation, is essential to protecting the rights and liberties of every person and maintaining public confidence in our system of justice.

To that end, CABA drafted an open letter reaffirming the legal community’s commitment to judicial independence and the rule of law. We are grateful to the many community leaders, bar organizations, and attorneys who have joined us in signing this important statement. Together, we reaffirm that defending judicial independence is not about any one case or any one judge—it is about preserving the integrity of our justice system for all.
