Cuban American Bar Association Event Raises More Than $45,000
MIAMI — April XX, 2025 – The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) raised more than $45,000 at its inaugural Carnival and Cookout: Battle of Los Puercos, which saw 11 teams battling to win the title of best pork dish. More than 250 people attended the event held on Saturday, April 5, at Cooper Park, 5751 SW 16 Street in West Miami. All proceeds benefited CABA Pro Bono Legal Services, the nonprofit founded by CABA in 1984.
The event featured delicious barbecue, food trucks and drinks, and fun attractions such as bounce houses for kids. The winner was Swine and Order: Special Pork Unit, a team sponsored by the Law Offices of Victor De Yurre. The cooks on the winning team included Angel Pardo, Fernando Benedi, Manny Ramos, and Gus Ceballos.
“We are thrilled with the success of this new event for CABA,” said Amanda L. Fernandez, president of CABA. “And we are very grateful to our sponsors, underwriters, and vendors for their generosity, including the City of West Miami. This was a fun way for the community to come together, enjoy good food, and to support a worthy organization.”
The judges included Chef Eileen Andrade, Jorgie Ramos, Roberto “Kiko” Suarez, Louis Fonseca, Yesenia Randazzo, Mayor Eric Diaz-Padron, and The Honorable Carlos Gamez. Podhurst Orseck P.A. was the title sponsor. Other sponsors included Akerman LLP and Kelly Law Offices, PLLC.
