On Sunday, October 23, 2011, members of the legal community gathered at Smith & Wollensky for the Inaugural Pink Gavel Luncheon.  Guests were greeted with a glass of pink champagne as they were escorted to the restaurant’s patio with an exquisite view of the ocean.  The Pink Gavel featured an impressive silent auction and included a raffle for a Norwegian 3 night/4 day cruise to the Bahamas.

The Pink Gavel honoree was Carla Hill, a two-time breast cancer survivor, who is married to prominent South Florida attorney, Marlon Hill of Delancey Hill, P.A.  Guests were moved by Mrs. Hill’s remarkable journey and her optimism for life despite fighting the disease twice.  Mrs. Hill’s treating physician, Dr. Frederick Moffat, surprised her with his attendance and briefly educated guests on breast cancer awareness.

Mrs. Hill was also presented the Pink Gavel award by Social Esquire, the boutique marketing company who orchestrated the event.  A portion of the proceeds were donated to Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the honoree’s fund, Hill and Bethel Family Organ Donation and Breast Cancer Awareness Fund.

Special Guests included Judge Jacqueline Scola and Judge Gloria Gonzalez-Meyer, as well as local breast cancer survivors.
